Morlux : Ultra-Violet Cure Coatings for the modern environment

The Morlux range offers an extensive portfolio of state-of-the-art technology products formulated to meet the diverse demands of a wide spectrum of end-user finishing requirements.
Morlux is ideal for use on furniture, including kitchens and bathrooms, flooring materials (cork tiles, woodblock and parquet), doors, architraves and picture frames. Systems based on Morlux UV products will meet the requirements of FIRA Standard 6250 for “horizontal surfaces” and “other surfaces”, Severe Use.

Environmental

The majority of Morlux UV products contain no solvents, hence no emissions. Furthermore, due to the speed of cure, energy requirements are lower than those of conventional lacquers. Therefore Morlux UV systems have less impact on our environment.

Quality finish

Although applied at considerably lower coatings weights than conventional lacquers, Morlux UV products create durable coatings with excellent chemical and physical resistance properties. They are available in a variety of sheen levels from Matt to High Gloss.

Speed of curing

As the majority are solvent free, the lacquers can be cured immediately after application. Curing is virtually an instantaneous process, requiring a second or less of UV radiation to achieve a 100% cured film. Once cured, coated components can be stacked and packed straight off the production line.

Application

The most common method of application for Morlux UV products is by rollercoater, either conventional or grooved roller Opti/Lazer coater, which is used for flat panel stock such as flush doors, office, kitchen and bathroom furniture.

Vacuum coaters are increasingly used to apply Morlux UV products to a wide variety of mouldings and extrusions.

The Morlux range of waterborne UV lacquers are ideally suited to application by auto spraying, again this is used for flat stock panels, but additionally is able to cope with profiles, raised & fielded panels etc.

Morlux bespoke systems

Strong contacts with major UV equipment manufacturers allows Morrells UV team to work in conjunction with customers and manufacturers to ensure that the products, application and curing systems fully meet their specific requirements. This commitment begins with the initial planning through to commissioning of plant, training of operatives and continues with on-going support and back-up.

Morlux products

Morrells have a wide range of products, the most typical groups of products are summarised below:

6042/0XX – Morlux Sealers/Basecoats

Formulated on a combination of resins, fillers and initiators, these products are suited to various substrates – veneer, solid wood and engineered board. With excellent sanding properties they provide a smooth and resilient base for application of Morlux topcoats (6X41/001 and 6X41/003).

6X41/001 – Morlux Topcoats

The careful selection of resins, matting agents, waxes and photoinitiators has produced coatings that are ideally suited to application by conventional rollercoaters. They offer superb chemical and physical resistance properties coupled with a smooth aesthetic appearance and touch.

6X41/003 – Morlux “Opti” Topcoats

The balanced combination of resins, matting agents, waxes and photoinitiators have been formulated to be applied over pre-sealed substrates using grooved “Opti” or “Lazer” rollercoaters. As with the conventional topcoat they provide a smooth and aesthetically pleasing finish with excellent chemical and physical resistance properties.

6X41/041 – Morlux Combi Lacquers

These Lacquers are based on a combination of solvent free UV Curable acrylate resin systems and selected fillers. They have been specifically formulated to provide the benefits of a conventional basecoat coupled with the surface properties of a topcoat, for use as a coat-on-coat system. As with all Morlux products they offer supreme chemical and physical resistance properties in combination with a very flat and smooth surface finish.

6X91/404 – Morlux Waterborne UV Lacquers

With excellent drying properties and adhesion to various substrates, these lacquers provide finishes with superb appearance and feel. They are formulated for autospray application and therefore are ideally suited to finishes on profiled and routered panels.

6X21/0XX – Morlux Vacuum Coater Lacquers

These products are specifically formulated to be low viscosity for vacuum coating, their reactivity allows them to be used at line speeds in excess of 50m per minute.

The Morlux range includes more specialised lacquers including highly flexible systems for cork tiles and a variety of products for finishing solid parquet and woodblock flooring. Systems are also available for a number of other substrates.
